Not only was the show a complete bore this year, so was the fashion. It seemed as though the stars were playing it safe in order to avoid fashion police, with only a few celebs standing out as “best dressed.”
Trend watch of the event noticed, as we have seen at numerous awards shows this year already, the mermaid gown look. One of my favorites, whom I have never seen look any better, Halle Berry in her beautiful strapless gold and black sequined mermaid shaped gown brought glamour to this popular trend.
Other celebs carrying the mermaid look included Beyonce in House of Dereon, Vanessa Hudgens in Marchesa, and Grey’s Anatomy star Melissa George in Dolce & Gabanna.
The second trend I noticed, which is also a favorite trend of mine- the belted gown. We saw this look on Miley Cyrus (although she was the worst dressed star of the evening in my opinion, yes worse then Whoopi) Sarah Jessica Parker, and Marion Cottliard who both wore Christian Dior.
Although most of the celebs looked fabulous, there were a few that just screamed “best dressed!” – Angelina Jolie, once again, looked sexy and sophisticated in a black, strapless Elie Saab gown, but it was her fabulous emerald earrings and matching cocktail ring that put her on my best dressed, or best accessorized list.
Halle Berry couldn’t have picked a better dress. In one of her more fashion forward choices the strapless, gold and black sequined dress with mermaid tail was both elegant and sexy.
Not only do I adore Amy Adams, but I thought she was also dressed better than usual. Her ruby-red strapless Carolina Herrera gown with the beautiful train was topped off with a gorgeous oversized, multi colored necklace. Another great accessorizer!!
Seems to me like Sarah Jessica Parker let the inner Carrie Bradshaw chose her dress for the evening (good thinking SJP). The beautiful, mint colored Dior gown with beatuifully sequined bodice and belt was fitting for the Sex and the City star.
Not too many horribly dressed celebs this year, but for the few there were, I have never seen worse!
Surprisingly showing up on my worst dressed list was Jessica Biel. Her strapless, silver potato sack of a Prada gown was awful and apparently her hairstylist was not much help either, showing up with messy locks.
Heidi Klum’s stylist must have taken a sick day on the most important day of the year. She looked like she is the runway project in a red Roland Mouret wreck.
Not surprising showing up as the worst dressed stars were Tilda Swinson in what looked to be a black and beige sheet set wrapped around her body, and Whoopi Goldberg in a cheetah printed muumuu.
But it is Miley Cyrus who takes the cake for the absolute worst dressed. The overly layered and overly sequined Zuhair Murad was the biggest mess of a dress!
On the upside, although I was very dissappointed in this years Oscar fashion, I was very impressed with the Academy’s award winners. Kate Winslet, Sean Penn, the honored Heath Ledger, and Slumdog Millionaire’s sweeping of awards including Best Picture made the evening a memorable night for many of Hollywood’s most incredible actors and filmmakers.

If you have not yet gone to see He’s Just Not That into You, I suggest you do. Not only will you be entertained, but you will leave with valuable life-long tips and lessons that can be applied to your love life/flings. Especially how to avoid convincing yourself that most of what you think is okay to do, regarding guys, is NOT.
Ladies, this movie will show you and make you reflect on some of the behaviors that we as women, posess.
Here is a few lessons I learned….
HE’S JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU
…If he’s not calling you
-If you’re his “it” girl…he WILL call you.
-Don’t obsessively check your voice mail/facebook/myspace/missed calls/texts or answering machine (if you still have one).
-If he doesn’t call…move on-there are other guys out there.
-Don’t stage a casual “encounter” where you hope to bump into him. You will get caught.
(…Ladies..another lesson from the movie… don’t be a helpless female and leave countless, meaningless messages on his voice mail. It will get you nowhere.)
… If he’s contacting you on MySpace/Facebook
- You’re on the bottom of his list..if you were number 1, you’d be getting a call.
-He is probably a creeper and could very possibly be lying about his looks and age.
-You could be the victim of his mass “love” mailing tendencies.
..Also gals-Don’t conform to cyber dates. Just don’t.
…If He’s Married
-Don’t get involved with him. You don’t want to be the other woman.
-Don’t try to assume the position of his “best friend”, you know your intentions are not that innocent.
-You won’t find love with him… Let’s be real-he only has an infatuation with you.
-And don’t listen to your girlfriends if they’re telling you it’s okay to pursue him. It only leads to trouble.
Though somewhat brutal, this movie seeks to explore the minds of guys and gals to help us understand the opposite sex.
But don’t lose hope. Just remember we are ladies: classy, sassy, fun, intelligent and sane individuals. (Sometimes we just forget to act like it when we’re caught up in love).
Biggest lesson learned…there are always exceptions to all of these circumstances and YOU could be that exception!
…remember…. the possibility does exist..that YOU’RE just not that into HIM.
2009 Grammy’s
Although the award show started off rather slow with U2’s less than stellar performance, there was plenty of entertainment at the 2009 Grammy’s.
Well there was drama, drama, drama with the cancelation of Rihanna and Chris Brown’s performances. Due to the alleged assault, the couple was a no-show. The show had to find replacement performers like the always fabulous JT which is always a good show.
My favorite performance had to be the Jonas Brothers and Stevie Wonder. The newcomers singing their hit song “Burnin Up” paired with the music legend’s “Superstition” definitely brought some liveliness to the Grammy’s stage tonight.
The most impressive moment of the night had to be Alison Krauss and Robert Plant receiving the most awards. Their awards including Album of the Year and Record of the Year brought Krauss to a whopping 26 Grammy’s in her music career!
Now to the unimpressive of the night, the fashion!! While there was Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, and Duffy all looking far too matronly for the Grammy’s there was also the ever so not very shocking Paris Hilton wearing what looked to have been a fairy’s bathing suit. Was it a bathing suit? A tunic? A nighty? No one will ever know.
Moving from bad to worse we have M.I.A. who’s swagger was definitely MIA at this award show. Dressed in an awful, giant, floral balloon looking dress and topped off with bright blue Christian Lacroix sneakers left me wondering what kind of swagger is this?
Estelle was clearly dressed on another planet in her silver, space inspired dress complete with matching space boots. Enough said.
Katy Perry didn’t get just one but two outfit bashings this evening. The Bubblegum Princess turned fruit disaster was just that, a disaster. Her performance outfit looked like she was wearing what the audience would have thrown at her.
On the upside, I can always count on Carrie Underwood looking fabulous. Although there really was not any competition between other best dressed stars (because there weren’t any) her slinky, gold Zuhair Murad dress was absolutely stunning.
So that is what I though about this years Grammy’s. Fabulous show, but complete fashion let down. Looking forward to what the magazines have to say next week!!
Perhaps it’s the weather, or the fact that the groundhog saw its shadow, but this past week has been quite the show for Hollywood’s celebrities.
US Magazine recently released photos of Fergie and Josh Duhamel’s wedding that took place on January 10th in Malibu. Wearing a Dolce & Gabbana wedding gown with a mesh tulle overlay, spaghetti straps and a long train, the pop star looked absolutely Fergilicious. The groom, wearing a black and white suite also by Dolce & Gabbana, looked handsome and classy in his simple attire. The pictures are stunning and beautiful and worth checking out if you have the time. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
On a more somber note, an audio clip of Christian Bale freaking out has hit the airwaves, causing quite the reaction amongst the public. Who knew that Batman had such a nasty temper? In response to the incident Christian Bale released a public statement apologizing for his actions, stating “I put so much into what I do and care so much about it and sometimes the enthusiasm just goes awry.” Hopefully he’ll learn to take a chill pill every once in a while!
Batman wasn’t the only one to receive negative press this week. The 14 gold medalist, Michael Phelps, is in the hot seat after a photo of him smoking marijuana surfaced in a British tabloid. One has to wonder how much money was paid for that photo! Phelps is now facing serious consequences from both his sponsors and the Olympic community. Not only is he suspended from the US Swimming organization for three months, but Kellogg announced that they will not be renewing his sponsorship which is due to expire at the end of this month. The man who made speedos sexy is facing the music with much dignity and respect, stating this his actions were “regrettable.”
Ending things on a positive note, the rich and famous will be out and about this Sunday at the 51st Grammy’s Ceremony. Artists up for Record of the Year include Adele, Leona Lewis, M.I.A., Robert Plant & Alison Krauss and Coldplay. Best of luck to all of the nominees!
Belmont Shore is a small area in Long Beach located just off the water that buzzes with residents, shoppers, visitors, beach-goers, and plenty of young college students all year round.
My favorite part of Belmont Shore is the infamous 2nd Street. This main street that gives off a boutique feel with all of it’s family owned restaurants, unique home stores, and trendy clothing stores.
If you decide to take a trip down here, you must stop by the Mediterranean cuisine of Open Sesame. People watch as you eat spicy humus and plates of chicken, lamb, or shrimp while sitting on their heated patio. If Mediterranean isn’t your first pick, 2nd street has plenty other ethnic, Italian, and American restaurants to choose from.
With California State University Long Beach just a few short miles away, 2nd street gives off quite the youthful vibe at night. Cruise over to Legends Sports Bar and Grill or Murphy’s Pub where you can catch a glimpse of the weeks sports highlights among a huge college crowd. Walk just a few more blocks and check out Belmont Shore’s favorite dive bar Shannon’s Bayshore for some cheap drinks, a fabulous juke box with a plethora of music, and a game of pool.
In the summertime, Belmont Shore closes its beachfront street, Bayshore, so that beach-goers are safe from the traffic that pours into their area. This also makes in very convenient for locals to ride their beach cruisers around. Overlooking Naples and the Long Beach peninsula, this small bay area is popular for sunbathing, swimming, and sailing and is usually occupied by college students and young adults.
Belmont shore closes the streets off a few times a year to have it’s own events such as the Belmont Shore Christmas Parade, the Dog Parade, Turkey Trot, and my favorite the Stroll n Saver. The Stroll N Saver includes about 30 different restaurants who participate by offering food for you to sample out on the sidewalk, so it’s a great way to visit the area and try a lot of food from a lot of places.
So if you need a new place to take a date, sunbathe, or shop check out this great area full of fun things to do!
