As Valentine’s Day quickly approaches, us single gals are asking ourselves “how the heck are we going to enjoy this holiday?” Well, we don’t have to think too hard about this one with one of the most anticipated chick flicks of the year, Confessions of a Shopaholic premiering Friday February 13th.
Based on the novel by Sophia Kinsella Confessions of a Shopaholic tells the story of a fabulously dressed college graduate who lands a job as a financial journalist in NYC to support where she nurtures her shopping addiction and falls for a wealthy entrepreneur. A super cute plot and a fabulous wardrobe make this the perfect movie for the single gal’s Valentine’s Day. So grab a cocktail or two before the movie and cheers to being single!
In case you don’t want to fight the hordes of girls at the movie theater, or if you are not the chick flick kind of girl, here are a few other ideas for the single girl to do on V-Day.
Plan a night out
Grab your fellow single gals and hit the bars, go to a nice dinner, do some karaoke, bowling, whatever. Celebrate being single and loving it!
Throw a Party
Have your single friends over for a little cocktail party. Play some games, gossip, or drink some wine and whine about being single.
Shop
Shopping cures just about everything, so it can definitely cure being slightly bummed out about V Day.
Pamper Yourself
Been waiting for a chance to treat yourself to a little “you” time? Do It! Get a mani- Pedi or a massage, and then grab your favorite movie and some takeout and lounge! There is no need to stress, enjoy your independence!!

When Wednesday comes to mind, we think “Whew” it’s finally the middle of the week. But Wednesday isn’t only hump day, it’s also Trivia Night at Ye Olde King’s Head Bar in Santa Monica. Instead of sitting at home watching your favorite gameshows like, Deal or No Deal, Jeopardy, or Wheel of Fortune..you ARE the gameshow.
Around 7:00pm teams of around 10 show up an hour early to claim their seats. Anytime after 8:00pm you’re most likely going to be standing in the back teamless.
Then the fun begins. The first question or puzzle is given and teams scramble and argue to reach the right answer. The answers are submitted, reviewed and announced, while points are awarded where earned. 8 rounds later, Trivia ends and final points are awarded.
The lucky winning team receives a $25 credit that can be used on drinks and food. So brush up on that celebrity gossip, those math & drawing skills, geography and just plain common sense and make your Wednesday night a little bit more rowdy and exciting!
Even though the Presidential Inauguration kept some celebrities from hitting the slopes at this year’s Sundance Festival, there were still plenty of famous faces hitting up all the events.
There were plenty of activities to keep stars such as Ashton Kutcher, Jim Carey, Pierce Brosnan, Susan Sarandon and couple Mariah and Nick busy.
Gatorade’s exclusive “G” Gym was set up to provide workout sessions with top celebrity fitness trainers.
Following their workout sessions, celebs such as Ashley Judd and Tea Leoni hung out and grabbed a bite to eat at the Myspace Cafe.
Nighttime festivities included DJ AM spinning at the Axe Fix Club for the festival’s kickoff party. Celebs also danced and partied the night away at TAO lounge.
More adventurous celebs like Audrina Patridge and Denise Richards took advantage of the snow and Oakley’s Pro Snowboarders who provided professional lessons.
Benjamin Bratt and others enjoyed the Rockband Lounge.
At the Sephora Beauty Lounge Kim Kardashian and Emma Roberts enjoyed makeup and hair touch-ups, along with a plentitude of free products.
With so much to do, who could put aside conscious consumerism for the weekend? The Green Lodge provided an organic chef and the latest in eco-friendly trends.
For Scarlett Johannsen and Ryan Reynolds along with many others, the Inauguration was at the top of their priority list. Too bad they missed all these fun events, we would have enjoyed it!!
I don’t know about you, but this economic hardship is taking a toll on every aspect of my life…most importantly my wardrobe. With bills to pay and money to save it seems there are few places to find a good bargain. To get away from this fashion crisis, I recommend you set aside a few hours to stop by the Manhattan Beach Blvd Sidewalk Sale!
Not only will you see low prices, but you will find high quality clothes that you’ve been waiting all year for to go on sale. With perfectly warm weather in the middle of winter, what better place to be than by the beach. And with the economic squeeze, you’ll find no better place to spend that hard-earned cash!
So grab your girlfriends (and drag your boyfriends!) and head to Manhattan Beach this weekend.
The New Year brings new dresses to the red carpet! The colors of the evening were whites, nudes, blues, and House star Olivia Wilde stunned in a lilac purple gown.
It was an elegant strapless, mermaid style gowns that graced the bodies of television most attractive stars.
Kate Beckinsale, Selma Hayek, Eva Mendes, and Renee Zelweger along with others were all wearing the mermaid style gown. Strapless gowns with a fitted bodice and train which flared out just above the knee looked amazing on these beautiful stars.
Our favorites of the 2009 Golden Globes were Drew Barrymore, Olivia Wilde, and Kate Beckinsale.
Drew Barrymore graced the red carpet in a romantic inspired mermaid gown. The light blue sheer fabric hung wistfully off her shoulders. The tight bodice of the dress flowed naturally into an elegant train.
House star Olive Wilde looked wildly amazing in an adorable lilac purple gown. The strapless dress had a detailed bodice that was fashionably accented with a rhinestone belt.
Lastly, Kate Beckinsale was stunning in her tight, white, mermaid inspired gown. The strapless gown was adorned with an oversized ruffle across the chest which gave the dress a romantically chic look.
The 2009 Golden Globes clearly kicked off the New Year with new styles that will be seen throughout the year. Styles such as strapless and halter gowns accented with mermaid like trains. Colors like nudes, whites, and blues will continue to be in style for the coming year, with the occasional purple or red fabulous gown. After starting the year with these chic gowns, we look forward to what the Academy Awards will bring.
Well its 2009, another year passes, I get increasingly older every year. I barely even made it until midnight! AGH! Anyways here’s a recap of the holidays since its been awhile since I’ve written:
Hope you all had a fabulous holidays, I was up in Oregon for the holidays…stuck in their “Arctic Freeze 2008.” Really? Do weathermen really have time to sit around and come up with creative names for upsetting weather. Remember El Nino? Anyways, got stuck in my families’ house for 6 DAYS, and even got stuck with out power for a day and a half. Nothing like having the holiday spirit when u are snowed in with the same people for a week
! BUT we made the most of it and played every game in our closet. Which brings me to this blog. Now a days all we do is work or sit in front of the TV and waste our brain. Why not indulge in some laughter and some brain stimulants with a few games now and then, even if you are not snowed in, grab a cocktail and these games get even more hilarious. Here are my recommendations! (Seriously, best games EVER!)
* The Game of Things – One reader reads aloud the “card,” for example – “Things you shouldn’t hold while riding a bike,” or “things you shouldn’t advertise on a billboard.” Then every player secretly writes their answer and puts it in the middle pot. Then the reader reads every answer out loud and each player makes one guess as to which answer they think is each player. Believe me…the answers can begin to get pretty hilarious after a few rounds. This was definitely my fav to play after a few beers
!
*Last Word – The players pull one subject card and one letter card so for example – “C” and “Vegetables,” while the timer is going you travel around the circle answering vegetables that start with C (carrots, cucumber, etc), if the buzzer lands on you (each time the timer is different) you lose that round, and you keep going until you are left with one player still standing.
*Apples to Apples – Each player is dealt 7 noun cards, and one person (reader) flips over an adjective card. Each player places one of their noun cards that would “fit” (whether it be funny or serious) with the adjective and the “reader” picks the winner. Whomever is chosen as the winner of that round they receive the adjective card and discard all of the played noun cards. The first player to get 4 adjective cards wins!
* Partini – Think of it as drinking games in a box. Play flip cup, receive dares, indulge random guests at a party. If you are feeling feisty and want to play a game with a big crowd this is definitely it!
SOOOO, next time you are about to sit down and watch tv with a bunch of friends, grab a game instead and have a blast!!!
