7am. Coffee. Work.

Should coffee really be our first step to start off the long day ahead?  Dependency on this morning routine develops because of two possible reasons.  The addiction to the caffeine or the placeboeffect that we just think the coffee is waking us up to the point where it changes our attitude.  Research done by the Nemours Foundation reveals that caffeine can make heart problems worse, reduce calcium thus impacting bone density development, and cause headaches.  There are other more effective and healthier ways to get that extra boost in the morning.  Try substituting the usual cup of joe with fresh ice water, orange juice, or a robust tea such as spiced chai.  Even spending some time to eat breakfast will give you more energy than you thought it could.  Give the old morning routine a boost and try some new ways to get through the day.

As the temperature goes down let the trendy warm clothes come on! A new favorite of mine are leg warmers.  No longer meant only for 80’s parties or dance classes anymore.  These warm fuzzies are great to wear under leggings, skinny jeans, or even a skirt.  Pair them up with some sandals or underneath some boots to complete the look.   They are sold in numerous colors, prints, and materials and are a sensible and fashionable assessorie that every girl should have this fall and winter.  You’ll be surprised at how warm and comfortable you will be while your friends rush to the nearest store to get their own.  You can buy these “must-haves” at forever 21 or American Eagle for a reasonable price that won’t break the bank.

Halloween will be here in just 4 short days! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like Halloween, its the one time of the year that you can be wear something crazy and know one cares! Since it is on a Friday this year, this is going to be one of the craziest Halloween’s in a long time!

There are countless things to do on Halloween! If your younger; of course, you go trick-or-treating. If your older, you have many options! Many people have Halloween parties where you dress up and have a good time with your friends. People also like to go to a club or just go walk around Santa Monica Blvd in Los Angeles! I have never been to Los Angeles for Halloween, but I have heard that it is a lot of fun! There are just people everywhere, dressed in the craziest costumes, having a good time!

Another option, is to go to a concert, which is what I am doing this Halloween night! I know it doesn’t sound very fun, but I’m excited! There are 3 bands playing that I love. We get to dress up, drink, and listen to some awesome live music! And at the end of the night we get to hang out with the bands at a private party! It is going to be awesome.

Some advice for those who aren’t sure what they are doing for Halloween; make your costume! Why go spend money on a costume if you aren’t sure if your even going to have a place to go!? I suggest waiting until you know for sure, then make the costume! I have been dressing up for a good 23 years, and the times that I make my costume, it turns out way better than anything you could buy in a store! Throw together stuff from your past costumes or rip up some fo your older clothes and go as a hobo!

Whatever you decide on doing this Halloween, just remember that it is supposed to be fun! Live it up and have a blast; thats all that matters!

  1. Go on a walk somewhere scenic
  2. Buy some flowers to brighten up your room! (Who says you have to wait for someone to do it for you??)
  3. Buy a pet fish. you’ll be surprised at how happy the little guy will make you!
  4. Name 5 things you are grateful for
  5. Play a song you love but havn’t listened to in years!
  6. Get a haircut! try something new this time
  7. Do a cartwheel for no reason
  8. Re-arrange the furniture in your space. (bring some new energy to it– you’ll be surprised everytime you walk in for a week!)
  9. Leave earlier, drive slower! (take a closer look at everything you usually drive right by)
  10. Take a bath instead of a shower (relax for once!)

My now ex boyfriend, used to give me the hardest time about “chick flicks.”  He would rant about how stupid and agonizing they were to watch and make fun of them constantly.  I began to think, do I judge your chauvinist action movies?  The movies where 007 always has a girl in his bed or IronMan has beautiful stuardists and news reporters give themselves to him.  These action movies depict a fantasy for men in the exact same way “chick flicks” show us that perfect man that we all wish we could find.  Yet, women will watch action movies and enjoy them while men continue to refuse to watch “chick flicks” unless forced to by their girlfriends or wives.  If men can have empowering films to boost their egos without refutation than so should women.  Next time your boyfriend rolls his eyes when you suggest, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days or The Women, take note and bask in the double standard.

Who doesn’t love a red carpet event every once in a while?  This came across my inbox and I thought I might share the insider info with MSC fashionistas!  It’s a VIP launch party and fashion show for a new line called Mosci.  I know, I know…new designers are a dime a dozen in LA but I’ve heard this one is worth it.

Ocean Mag is sponsoring and at the very least you’ll get a cocktail and a gift bag!! Enjoy – working Gal ;)

In the summer, girls are found everywhere with messy buns, unruly waves, and relaxed curls.  Who says the fun has to stop when the temperature goes down and the warm clothes come on? Try something different this autumn and take down that tight low pony tail or j. crew headband and add a little flare.  Try some loose curls done with a 1 inch barrel curling iron to bounce off that warm knitted sweater. Or try wearing two low pigtails with a touch of ribbon to set off that carefree fall look.  Adding a small braid down the side of your hair is a simple and easy added touch of flare that will not go unnoticed.  It is easy to get caught up in a routine of the same hair style every day. So remember, beautiful, relaxed, and whimsical hairstyles of the summer do not have to be forgotten in the wake of autumn!

Fashion week is now over,it seemed to have a good turnout and some good runway shows. After looking through some runway pictures a few designers caught my eye. I was interested to see what Lauren Conrad was going to come up with and it seems like she stepped up her game. Ed Hardy’s show was very out going and over the top! On top of having the Ed Hardy show, Christian Audigier did his own show, which had some crazy, but cute pieces. I also checked out the Beach Bunny swimwear collection, which never seems to disappoint!

The Lauren Conrad Collection was much nicer than I expected; she had some prints, more detailing, and nicer fabrics. She did have the classic solid colored jersey dresses, but mixed it up with subtle polka-dots. One dress I fell in love with was a beige-and-white chiffon polka-dot tube top dress which had a black trim. It seemed that everything in her collection was sexy and girlie at the same time. Lauren Conrad’s collection was much better than what she has done before.

The Ed Hardy show was over the top! Everything head-to-toe was Ed Hardy. They had ties, shirts, hats, shoes, belts, pants, dresses, scarfs, skirts, visors and even leggings! The models had so much going on that it looked like a mess. Some of the pieces would look okay worn alone with some solid pieces, but the way they displayed the pieces made it look way too cluttered! They pretty much had every color in the rainbow in the collection. It seems to me that they need to calm it down a little.

I’m not sure how, but after designing for Ed Hardy, Christian Audigier managed to put on his own show. I think his show was much better than Ed Hardy. The whole theme of the runway was black & red in plaid and as solids. He had this awesome “Modern Prom Dress,” which was black and red plaid with a puffy red skirt that hit the floor and opened in the front. He had things like top hats as accessories. The whole show was very rock n’ roll!

Lastly I checked out Beach Bunny swimwear. Most of the swimsuits were two pieces. It seemed liked they were using red and white a lot and they had there famous lace trim and bow accents. They seemed to use a lot of jewels as accents this season, which looked really cute. They also had teals and maroons in the show. All in all, Beach Bunny came out with some cute pieces, but I would have liked the show to have more of a theme to it.

After looking at these designers and what they brought to the runway, I was pretty impressed with them. I would have to say my favorite designer out of the four would be a mix up between Christian Audigier and The Lauren Conrad Collection. I was happy that Lauren Conrad stepped up her game and her pieces were things I would wear on an everyday bases. Christian Audigier’s show just seemed to be very fun and the designs were very different and out there, which I love to see on the runway! Ed Hardy was pretty disappointing with way too much stuff going on. Beach Bunny had some cute bathing suits, but I expected a little more! LA Fashion week for the Spring 2009 collections seemed to turn out good and I can’t wait to be able to buy some of the pieces I saw!

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has arrived to Los Angeles to display some of the Spring 2009 fashions. Fashion week Spring 2009 has started this past weekend and is going on until October 17th! All of the shows are taking place at Smashbox studios in Culver City.

Today there will be four designers walking down the runway. The two that I am most excited to see are Ed Hardy and Beach Bunny Swimwear. Everyone knows that Ed Hardy is huge right now, which is why I’m interested to see what they have come out with for Spring 09. Beach Bunny Swimwear has been featured in Sports illustrated and has some of the cutest bathing suits.

On Tuesday there will be six designers. Most of them I don’t know too much about, but Lauren Conrad will be presenting her new line in the main tent at 8pm. I am very interested to see what she has come up with for this season, because I have not heard too many good things about the collections she has out now.

There are three designers set to show off there new designs on Wednesday. None of these designers really ring a bell to me, but they are; Eco-Ganik, Debra Davenport and Christian Audigier. I have heard of Christian Audigier, but I don’t know too much about the style of the clothing.

Thursday seems to be one of the biggest nights with six shows going on and one big show at the end. The last show is the Green Initiative Humanitarian Fashion Show presented by The Gallery Los Angeles. This show is featuring three designers and I’m sure more.

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion week in LA is one of the hottest tickets in town this week. It is entry by invitation only and not opened to the public. But that does not mean that you can’t get in on the action. I found a website fashionweekdaily.com, which shows you what was on the runway, has videos, and gives you updates on all the parties. This website is a good way to keep you updated on what is going on during fashion week! So take the time and check out the new fashion’s for Spring 2009!
